The Moment That Changed Everything

The Moment That Changed Everything

To recap, from 2013 to 2016, I was sharing the frozen, perishable version of the miracle berry that turns sour things sweet with anyone curious about how I kept so much weight off and transformed my life. It was amazing to see the same reactions over and over, but I wasn’t committing to it as a business. I expected the huge companies to bring it to market, and I’d just buy it from them. Besides, Juliano wasn’t on board with the idea of teaming up, so what was I going to do—convince someone else who was less qualified and less trustworthy? I told myself I should be happy to have a magic berry that gave me taste buds with superpowers and leave the food business to the professionals.

Then, Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead 2 hit my streaming service, and I had to give it a chance. The first film had changed my life, so I should have expected this one to do the same. But I was not ready for what I saw. I won’t spoil anything here, but one realization hit me so hard that my eyes watered. A spirit stirred something in me that was impossible to ignore. If I could relate to losing hope from my past yo-yo dieting, I knew I wasn’t the only one who needed to escape that feeling. Using the berry to stick with my good habits while satisfying my sweet cravings gave me back my hope.

Fighting back tears, I told Juliano that nobody else was making the actual berry a reality, and based on what I saw in the film, it had to be done now. This time, I wasn’t going to accept no for an answer. I believed what I was saying so much that I was actually prepared to fight him, and he could hear it in my shaky voice.

Okay, he told me—relenting for the first time. He would go down this road with me, but only under two conditions—both of which I’ll share next time.

It’s no secret that I love movies—especially the ones that speak to me so deeply they change my life. I usually watch1 or two before bed to unwind, and I started noticing that’s when my strongest sweet cravings hit. I had my morning solution with tart yogurt and my midday solution with green juice, but what was going to be my go-to for the evening?

Turns out, the fruit I had been using to fancy up my yogurt was stored in the freezer with my miracle berries. One night, I pulled them out to thaw a little, started my movie, and halfway through, the sweet craving hit. I let the miracle berry coat my taste buds and started in on my lightly frosted fruit bowl. Instantly, I made the connection—it tasted exactly like ice cream sorbet. It was exactly what I had been craving!

That night, a whole new world of options opened up. Next week, I’ll clue you into my all-time favorite fruits for this trick and the candy that each one represents.
