Sealing the Deal

Sealing the Deal

Last week I had the idea to reduce the jar size and drop the price. So we ordered a bunch of different jar samples and started experimenting with how the new labels would look. They were all spread across the countertop when Juliano noticed something I completely missed.

One of the lids from a glass jar fit perfectly on the smaller BPA-free plastic jar we were considering. That lid was a 58 over100 and it had a special lining under the rim that made it more airtight than the all-plastic lids we had been using.

This was a game changer. Better seal meant better preservation. Less air leakage meant better flavor. From then on, every small jar came with that airtight lid.

But getting there wasn’t easy. The supplier didn’t actually sell the jar and lid as a combo. They offered both but only separately. Since we were the first (and only) ones to make such a request, it took some back and forth, along with our resale license, to get approved. But it was worth it.

That lid upgrade improved the entire experience for every future customer and gave us something we didn’t know we needed. Around the same time we found a six ounce by volume jar that could hold 21 grams and an eight ounce by volume jar that could hold 33 grams. Those became our new medium and large jars. Just like that we had a full BPA-free lineup of airtight small, medium and large jars ready for our power users.

And if you’re wondering what made them power users, it’s simple. They understood the berry right away and, like me, used it multiple times a day. Some wanted to make healthy sour things taste better. Others used it to cut sugar and enjoy sweet treats without added calories or glycemic impact. Whatever their reason, we finally had options for anyone who wanted more berry for the buck.

But there was still one thing missing from the small jar. I’ll share what that was and how we fixed it next week.

Now for this week’s flavor experiment…

Cherries.

Yes the cherry on top. Except that phrase makes a lot of promises. Not every cherry is a sweet one and when that happens it can let you down. So I had to try it with Nature’s Wild Berry.

30 seconds and game over.

The berry turns even the most underwhelming cherry into a candied masterpiece. You know the kind that sits on top of cakes and desserts and delivers every time? That’s what it tastes like. Every cherry gets an upgrade.

If you want to try it, look for the hidden alphanumeric discount code hiding in plain sight in this blog. It’s worth 20 percent off and it expires in 48 hours. Look closely at the text. Did you spot a word that’s formatted oddly? Enter it exactly as shown!
